Command Builder

Pick a tool and a task, type your own values, and get the command in the right format. Then read what each part does before you run it.

Command builder: fill in your values on the left and get a ready command on the right

What each part means

Everything happens inside your browser. Nothing you type here is sent or saved anywhere.

How to use the command builder

Think of it like a form at the bank. You fill in the boxes, and the clerk writes the slip in the exact format the bank wants. Here, the "slip" is a command, a script or a config file.

  1. Pick the toolPowerMax (SYMCLI) or Pure FlashArray for storage, Cisco MDS or Brocade for the SAN switches, AWS CLI for the cloud, Terraform or Ansible for automation, or Python for scripts.
  2. Pick the taskEach task is one real job from daily work, such as "Create a masking view" or "Take an EBS volume snapshot".
  3. Type your valuesThe boxes start with example values. A box turns red when a value is in the wrong format, like a WWN with 15 digits.
  4. Read, then copy"What each part means" explains every flag. The note under it tells you what to check before and after you run it.

Read the safety label first

A command is only as safe as the values in it. Every task carries one of three labels, so you know how careful to be before you press Enter.

Read only

Looks at things and changes nothing. Listing storage groups or running servers. Safe to run any time.

Changes the system

Creates or changes something. Run the preview or dry run first, and follow your team's change process at work.

Can remove data or access

Removes storage from a host or deletes a server. Confirm the target twice and get the owner's OK in writing.

ToolTry it safely firstWhat the safe run does
PowerMaxsymconfigure … previewChecks the request against the array and reports errors. Nothing changes until you run commit.
AWS CLI--dry-runAWS checks your permissions and values, then replies DryRunOperation instead of creating anything.
Terraformterraform planLists every resource it would add, change or destroy. Read the last line before you apply.
Ansible--check --diffShows what would change on each server, line by line, without touching them.
PythonOne test serverScripts have no built-in preview. Run them on a lab machine or a single server first.

The builder runs only in your browser. Your array IDs, WWNs and IP addresses are never sent to us or saved anywhere. Still, never paste passwords or access keys into any website, including this one.

What you can build today

Click any task to open it straight away in the builder. PowerMax covers the full life of a host's storage, from the first look to giving it back. More tools are coming soon, including Linux, Windows Server, Azure and NetApp.
